Local beauty vies for Miss Congo SA title
She hopes to be one of 20 finalists that will compete for the crown on December 10
GLEN Marais resident and aspiring model, Raissa Tshiabu (19), is competing against 36 semi-finalists for the title of Miss Congo South Africa.
She was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Lubumbashi and immigrated to South Africa with her parents at the age of one.
After submitting her application for the pageant, Tshiabu was called for an audition and to her surprise, she was chosen to be part of the fifth installment of the Miss Congo SA pageant. This year’s theme is “A Truly Remarkable Legacy”.
“This is my first pageant ever and it has already given me the ability to step out of my comfort zone and reveal the best in me – I am ready to do anything which will give value to my countries, the DRC and SA,” said Tshiabu.
She hopes to be one of 20 finalists who will compete for the crown at Wits Theatre on December 10. The finalists will be announced in early November.
“I would love the community of Kempton Park to support one of their own, as I’m the only girl from Kempton competing in the pageant. Winning Miss Congo SA would give me the platform to change homes, communities and one girl at a time,” Tshiabu added.

“I have approached Casa Caritas to do charity and volunteer work for them. You can’t change yesterday but you can do something today that can change tomorrow. It doesn’t matter how you were born; it doesn’t matter what has happened in the past – all you have to do is re-position yourself, refuse to be a ‘mental hobo’ and believe in not only yourself but your future too.”
