UPDATE: Three arrested after Grayston Drive shootout

Delays in both ways can be expected

Two suspects are still at large following a shootout on the M1 earlier today.

Max Cohen, spokesman for Emer-G-Med, said: “At 11:24am EMER-G-MED paramedics responded to reports of a shooting on the M1 North after the Grayston Drive offramp. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a large JMPD and SAPS presence.

“On-scene reports indicated that the suspects’ vehicle was spotted by police travelling on the highway after an armed robbery in Rivonia. The suspects opened fire and a shootout ensued. Three suspects were arrested on the scene. Two are still at large,” he added.

“A security officer sustained minor injuries to one of his hands during the commotion and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.”

Motorists are advised to avoid the M1 North between Grayston and Marlboro Drive because of a crime scene.

Max Cohen of Emer-G-Med said they were on the scene of the shootout involving police and a group of armed robbers on the M1 North at the Grayston off-ramp.

“At this stage three suspects have been arrested and no injuries have been reported.”

Crime scene investigations on the scene are ongoing.
