UPDATE: Tembisa ‘under close police supervision’

Police fired rubber bullets in attempts to disperse the crowd

Tembisan journalist, Jantji Nwenyama, reports the protest against service delivery, has turned violent.

The area remains under close police supervision.

“The mayor met with residents earlier. But now residents are armed with rocks and stones and the police fired rubber bullets in attempts to disperse the crowd,” said Jantji.

Earlier The Tembisan reported that Phomolong Section’s residents blockaded all the main streets with stones and burning tyres at 2am on October 19. It is also believed that protesters set a building alight. The SAPS and EMPD responded quickly to secure the Phomolong Customer Service Centre from potential vandalism.
