7 Ways to deal with exam stress
With these tips you can rest assured that the stress load will be much less

WITH exams around the corner and the stress of what to do with your life after matric, it can be tricky to maintain a balance and not go into a flat spin.
If you have made it this far it is only a few more weeks until you have written the last exam of your school career and spread your wings to bigger horizons.
With these seven easy tips on how to manage your time and deal with exam stress, you can rest assured that the stress load will be much less.
Tip 1: Focus for 10 minutes
Start off by choosing a subject and hide all distractions from yourself for the next 10 minutes. Take sub sections instead of chapters at a time and commit 100 percent to give your all. You might find that 10 minutes turn into 30 or 60 minutes.
Tip 2: Clear up
If your area where you feel the most comfortable to study looks like a pigsty, get a handle on that mess and tidy up. Also organise your study material and make use of highlighters and colourful pens.
Tip 3: Make a study schedule and share it
Make a study schedule that benefits you the best and share it with family and friends so that everyone knows your study times to respect it and motivate you when you feel like procrastinating. Make sure your schedule allows you to have enough time to study for the next subject.
Tip 4: Rise early
Get up early to take care of your studying fast and feel more accomplished. If you finish early you can still make time for the fun and other important things in your life. It is also beneficial to get into a routine of getting up early because that way you won’t be late for a test.
Tip 5: Reward yourself
Remember to reward yourself once in a while if you really deserve it. If you have been studying all week, reward yourself to a day off with friends or family to regain your motivation of pushing through. It doesn’t all have to be bad, enjoy your last moments of almost finishing school.
Tip 6: Eat healthy and exercise
Eating healthy and feeling good always reduces those stress levels. Drink a lot of water and stay away from caffeine such as Red Bull, coffee and any artificial milk products like Steri Stumpi.
Get used to eating cereal or muesli for breakfast and fruits, lots of fruits. If you feel like your concentration is dropping, do some stretch exercises or walk around the house for 5 minutes. Get that brain active and healthy.
Tip 7: Avoid conflict and drama:
Avoid any type of negative influence like starting an argument with your parents, siblings, girl/boyfriend and your friends over something meaningless. This is the last stretch, let’s do it!
In the words of Ekurhuleni mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, “Give it one last push, and make all of us proud. Remember, education is the answer to unemployment, poverty and inequality.”
