Three get highest Rotary award
Rotary clubs honour individuals who make a significant contribution to the community as Paul Harris Fellows
THREE Rotarians of Edenvale Rotary Club were awarded Paul Harris Fellowship awards for the work they have carried out to assist in the Khanyisa soup kitchen.
The recipients were Carol and Leigh Evans and Shirley Kelly.
Khanyisa is based next to the Methodist Church in Edenvale and has been in existence for over 20 years. They rely solely on donations in order to prepare and serve a hot midday meal every weekday to about 200 unemployed and homeless people a week. They do not charge anything for the meal.
They also help find jobs for unemployed Edenvale people to work as cleaning staff, domestic workers, or gardeners.

Kelly has been the manager at Khanyisa for many years and has always gone beyond the call of duty to keep it running. She has also spent many off duty hours stocking the freezers and obtaining much-needed food for the soup kitchen.
Carol and Leigh Evans have spent many years visiting Woolworths on a Sunday afternoon collecting food and taking it to Khanyisa. They have been incredible supporters, in the background in most cases, of Khanyisa.
Paul Harris was the third president of the Rotary Club of Chicago in 1907. The club initiated its first public service project, the construction of public toilets in Chicago. This step transformed Rotary into the world’s first service club.
