The Ivory Park SAPS disposed of confiscated liquor on Thursday last week.

Be aware of liquor laws

The alcohol was confiscated from people and establishments selling liquor illegally within the policing precinct.

The large amount of liquor was confiscated as a result of ongoing operations undertaken by the Ivory Park SAPS members in the past four months or so.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the exercise was done out of a genuine desire by the Ivory Park SAPS to rid the area of illegal shebeen owners, as the law stipulates that anyone who wants to sell liquor must have completed the necessary applications and must be licensed to do so.

“During the process, about 70 crates, containing 12 bottles of liquor each, were poured into the station’s drainage,” said Capt Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, warned illegal shebeen owners that as long as they do not comply and are not licensed, they must expect to suffer the consequences.

“Ivory Park wants to ensure that those selling are licensed, know the terms and conditions attached to their licenses, which include opening and closing times, and the age of the people eligible to buy and consume alcohol,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
