Kempton West residents ‘gatvol’ after 10 waterless days this month

Another pipe in Handel Street also burst on Wednesday and residents might be effected due to repairs

KEMPTON Park West residents have been without water for 10 days this month due to a pipe that was damaged on Pyp Avenue.

“Every week there are one or more days that we are without water. We get no feedback from the council on what the issue is and we struggle to log calls as the call centre.

“Lots of water is also being wasted as the council normally takes a long time to repair,” said resident Gerda Voster.

According to ward councillor Tracey Lourenco the problem is being resolved and a large section of the pipe will be replaced.

“I have ongoing consultations about the infrastructure problem in the area and have confirmed with the acting engineer of Kempton Park that the problem will be sorted out as soon as possible,” said Lourenco on Friday.

“Another pipe on Handel Street also burst on Wednesday and residents might be affected due to repairs. We are still in the process of gathering as much information on the water and pipe-bursting problems in the area and a public meeting will be hosted as soon as I have enough information to share with residents. For now temporary solutions are being used to fix the problems.”

Residents can contact Lourenco on 082 451 2255 if there is any need for water tankers.
