Blowing the whistle on crime

"About 550 whistles were issued to the community and local businesses to be blown when such crimes are in progress," said Capt Sekgobela.

On October 28, the Tembisa South SAPS communications officer, Social Crime Prevention, together with members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Youth Crime Prevention Desk, conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign in the Vusimusi informal settlement.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the police noticed that due to the increase in serious crimes such as business robberies, house robberies and murders in the area, there is a need to declare war against those criminals.

“About 550 whistles were issued to the community and local businesses to be blown when such crimes are in progress,” said Capt Sekgobela.

“Members of the public were also taught to phone the police immediately when they notice that their neighbours are facing situations of crime.”

Captain Sekgobela said the community was also issued with pamphlets containing the police emergency contact numbers.
