Campaign held to inform youngsters about substance abuse

Tembisa learners taught about the dangers of substance abuse.

The Tembisa South SAPS Social Crime Prevention, members of the Youth Crime Prevention Desk and the Department of Social Services visited Welomlambo Primary School on October 26 to conduct a substance abuse awareness campaign.

Substance abuse a growing problem in SA

Captain Neldah Sekgobela said grade 6 learners were informed about the bad effects of drugs, including Nyaope, on the human body.

“If the addict is not getting treatment for drug addiction, the effects will remain until the situation gets worse, whereby an addict will lose his memory and later die at an early age,” said Capt Sekgobela.

Love for daughter overpowers desire for drugs

She said learners were encouraged to not get themselves involved in drugs but to rather prolong their life by concentrating on their school work and their future.

“Skhumbuzo Mokwena from the Tembisa South Youth Desk also encouraged the learners to love and respect their school uniform,” said Capt Sekgobela.

Mr Mokwena discouraged the shaming of school uniforms by doing unacceptable things while still school uniform.
