Learner’s cellphone recovered after foot chase

Unfortunately a case of robbery couldn't be opened against the suspect

A Sir Pierre van Ryneveld High School girl’s cellphone was recovered after a suspect was apprehended on Friday afternoon.

He was chased by the brother of the girl from the high school on Commissioner Street to the civic centre on CR Swart Drive.

“Stop that guy, stop that guy, was all I heard when two guys came running towards us,” said Shabalza Security officer, Valley Motsweni.

Motsweni and his partner, Phuti Seaneso, arrested the suspect and took him to Kempton Park Police Station.

“Unfortunately a case of robbery couldn’t be opened because the girl whose cellphone it was, wasn’t there when we went back to the school to get a statement from her,” said Motsweni.

Thanks to the swift reaction of Motsweni and Seaneso, at least the girl’s cellphone wasn’t stolen.
