Two detained for possession of unlicensed firearm

"Between the two of them, the suspects were found to have hidden a 7.65mm pistol and four rounds of live ammunition. "

Two men from Rabie Ridge were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court following their arrest on Friday last week.
Members of the Ivory Park SAPS arrested the men after they were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and four live rounds of ammunition.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the suspects, aged 34 and 47, were arrested during a routine stop-and-search patrol in Ivory Park, Extension 2.
“Between the two of them, the suspects were found to have hidden a 7.65mm pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.
“Police will, as it is the norm, conduct further investigations into the suspects and the firearm to find out if the suspects were involved in other criminal activities and to check if the firearm had been used in the commission of other crimes in the area,” said Capt Matimulane.
The Ivory Park station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, thanked the arresting officer, Sergeant Lydia Tlhotse, and her two community patrol partners for a job well done.
“We are on record as saying that if the police and the community were to join hands, we would have more chances for defeating the scourge of crime which is, unfortunately, prevalent in Ivory Park,” said Brig Ngcobo.
