Talent show to display local talent

The event will be led by the Tembisa South SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, Sergeant Nonjabulo Mogale and Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

The Tembisa South SAPS, in conjunction with the Youth Desk, Community Police Forum (CPF) and Gravetown Arts Foundation, will host the inaugural annual Tembisa South’s Got Talent Show #YouthAgainstCrime on Friday, November 25.
The event will be led by the Tembisa South SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, Sergeant Nonjabulo Mogale and Captain Neldah Sekgobela.
According to the Tembisa South SAPS Youth Desk deputy chairperson and project coordinator, Mr Skhumbuzo Mokwena, the aim is to uplift the youth in the township in terms of entertainment, which will split into two seminars – a career exhibition and a talent show.
“The career exhibition will channel the youth about their desired careers. Most of our youth are interested in entertainment as a career. We want to show off the talent to the underprivileged youth and expose it to the established artists.
“Since we are also celebrating 16 Days of Activism, this event will form part of raising awareness of criminal activities happening against them, such as sexual offences, gender-based violence and other criminal offences,” said Mr Mokwena.
Mr Mokwena said the concept behind the show is to change the mindset of the youth, to refrain from resorting to crime and to take part in positive activities.
Auditions will take place at the Tembisa South SAPS and Friday, November 18, will be the last day for auditions.
Auditions will be held from 12pm to 4pm.
“We are appealing to young people and the youth to be part of this event. Interested people should bring their identity book and proof of residence. We are targeting people from the age of 14 to 30 years,” said Mr Mokwena.
The show will be broadcast on the Bophelong Magazine Show, an SABC 2 programme, online Dream Television, and Waptrendz among others.
“The event will have eight categories and under each, we will be selecting one participant to get mentorship from professional artists. Other great prizes will also be up for grabs,” said Mr Mokwena.
