
TWO customs officials from OR Tambo International Airport were arrested on Sunday evening, November 12 for smuggling cocaine worth R2 million.
The suspects, aged 29 and 35, allegedly smuggled out an unaccompanied suitcase which arrived on a flight from Brazil on Sunday afternoon and left it at the international arrival hall security passenger exit gate.
Hawks’ Organised Crime Unit members observed the suspects and confronted them as they made their way to the exit gate. The members opened and searched the suitcase and about 6kg of cocaine worth an estimated R2 million, wrapped in clothing, was recovered .
The suspects briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on November 15 for dealing in cocaine, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
