Lifelong friends team up to pursue their dream
The company already has 10 artists that they are promoting
A PASSION for music and the entertainment industry is what led young and talented Gcinumzi Dlamini (22) and Paballo Komane (21), to start BlackStar Entertainment in December last year. Komane and Dlamini’s entrepreneurial spirit and is what led to their partnership.
Co-founder and executive director of the marketing company, Dlamini said they already have 10 artists that they’re promoting.
“We push their music on social media and ensure their brand as well as their fan base grows,” he explained.
The Birch Acres resident was studying journalism at the University of Johannesburg, when he was bitten by the music bug and realised he wanted to be a music business maestro.
Dlamini will be enrolling with Unisa for a business management course.
His parents were a bit disappointed that he dropped out of university, but are now very supportive of their sixth born and his dream.
“Music is something I’ve loved from a young age. I have three older sisters and two older brothers and their success has inspired me; my mother is also my biggest inspiration,” he added.
BlackStar Entertainment is not a record label, but future plans include venturing into music production and artist management, explained Dlamini.
The company recently partnered with a few hip-hop artists and on October 26, they released a song titled: “Kings Of The East” – which features Jay Claud3, Commix, BigStar Johnson, QuickFassCass, JimmyWiz, V-Eye, Qu3zt_M4rk and B-Alpha; and is produced by SpDubbBeats.
The song has been well received and has already been downloaded 4000 times since its release.
It was also featured on online music publication Sliqor On Life.
The company isn’t only about the music, but also has a range of shirts that they’ve launched.
Katlego Sebetha (23), known as Blaqlist, isn’t featured on the new song, but is signed to the marketing company.
Sebetha and Dlamini grew up together and it is their faith and belief in themselves that drew them to work together in this journey.
After matriculating from Norkem Park High School in 2013, Sebetha went straight into pursuing his music career. Although he raps, the 23-year old says he’s more than just a rapper.
“I classify myself as an artist. I make music and I can’t be boxed. I rap about what I’m going through; my life and my experiences. I make music so people can understand me,” Sebetha said.
In five years, the duo say they see themselves on the Forbes list.
