Five arrested for drugs

The effort was part of the police's festive season operation

FIVE people are behind bars for drug-related charges after being arrested over the weekend during a police operation.

The effort was part of Kempton SAPSs festive season operation which aims to create high police visibility in Kempton’s hot spot areas in the CBD and shopping malls.

The operation, which spanned Friday and Saturday, was led by the police’s crime prevention unit.

“On Friday night at about 11.30pm, a 35-year-old male suspect was arrested on Commissioner Street when he was found carrying a plastic packet containing a white powdery substance, suspected to be drugs,” Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for the police, said.

Then on Saturday morning a further four people were arrested for being in possession of dagga.

The first suspect (29) was caught with the drugs at about 8.25am on Casuarina Street.

Then moments later a second person (25) was arrested for the same crime at the corner of Long and Casuarina streets.

The second and third suspects were arrested at the same time on Long Street at about 8.40am, also for possession of dagga.
