THE City of Ekurhuleni has appointed Dr Imogen Mashazi as the new city manager.
Mashazi, a Brakpan resident, was appointed by the council at the November council sitting in Germiston on Thursday. She takes over from Khaya Ngema who left the position in August.
Executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina, congratulated Mashazi and wished her well in her new appointment.
“I have no doubt in her capabilities. This is a woman who has been in local government for 20 years and that speaks for itself. She has come through the ranks from being an operational staff member to being the chief operations officer – therefore she understands local government very well.
“She understands the systems, policies and most of all the processes of ensuring that we deliver quality, sustainable and predictable services to our people,” Masina said.
Prior to her recent appointment, Mashazi was the city’s acting city manager, a position she acted in for three months. She has been appointed city manager for five years.

She has at least 31 years experience in municipal, which includes:
• 3 months as acting city manager for EMM
• 3 years 8 months as chief operations officer for EMM
• 6 years as executive director: health and social development for EMM
• 3 years 7 months as director family health services for EMM
• 1 year as acting CEO Nigel Town for EMM
• 6 years as deputy director health services and welfare for EMM
• 1 year as occupational health practitioner for Consol Glass
• 10 years as primary health care nurse for Soweto Community Health Centres / Germiston City Council and Pholosong Casualty
