Raw ‘Cat plant’ found inside package destined for USA

The package came from Johannesburg

THE suspicions of employees at a courier company led to the discovery of methcathinone, the drug popularly known as Cat, inside a parcel destined for the USA.

The discovery was made by police on Wednesday morning (November 23).

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, the spokesperson for the Kempton SAPS, a package coming from Joburg arrived at the company in Isando, and was meant to be delivered to Ohio, USA.

“The courier company became suspicious of the package and that’s when they decided to call in the police. When the police opened the parcel, they discovered the Cat drug, which was still in its raw form of leaves,” Mtshali said.

The green and brown leaves, with long stems, was covered in newspapers and packaged inside two brown boxes.

Mtshali confirmed the drugs are in police custody and they will be conducting investigations to determine where the drugs came from. They would be working with the Joburg police.
