Residents protest against poor service delivery

Dissatisfied residents of Tembisa staged a peaceful protest to air their service delivery concerns on November 10.

Dissatisfied residents of Tembisa staged a peaceful protest to air their service delivery concerns on November 10.
Coordinator of the protest, Mr Bongani Dube, said the community decided to embark on the service delivery protest to object to the high billing of services.
“We believe we are not treated fairly by our municipality, that’s why we believe we should let our concerns be heard by the municipality,” said Mr Dube.
Some of the concerns included in the memorandum, which was addressed to the mayoral office, listed the over charging of rates, being served with final notices despite paying, objections to electricity debt especially for those on prepaid meters and high water bills as some of the communities concerns.
The memorandum was received on behalf of the City of Ekurhuleni by the MMC for Human Settlement, Clr Lesiba Mpya.
Mayoral spokesperson Mr Zweli Dlamini confirmed the receipt of the memorandum.
He said they will do everything in their power to meet the given deadline of 15 days.
“In the mean time, the memorandum is receiving attention in line with the city’s process of handling petitions and memorandums,” said Mr Dlamini.
