A 28-year old man, who was employed as a security officer at a local primary school in Kaalfontein, was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Friday last week.
This comes after he was found in possession of the school’s stationery and groceries.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the suspect reported a case of business robbery at the Ivory Park SAPS, in which he claimed that he and his colleague were robbed by a group of armed men.
The suspects allegedly tied them up before fleeing the scene with the school’s property and food.
“Because of the discrepancies between the versions of the two guards, the police commenced with some preliminary investigations and that was when they found the stationery and groceries at the suspect’s place of residence. For the record, it must be stated that the stationery and groceries found at the suspect’s place were not the items reported as stolen, but it belongs to the school nevertheless,” said Capt Matimulane.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, is disappointed by the theft of school property.
“It is even sadder when the persons tasked with protecting this property are allegedly involved with some of the theft,” Brigadier Ngcobo said.
