New Sir Pierre principal wants to improve academic standards

Margaret Wrigley became deputy principal in 2011 and was acting principal for almost a year

SIR Pierre Van Ryneveld’s newly appointed headmistress has set her eyes on advancing the school academically.

Margaret Wrigley was named the high school’s new principal only in October but she already has a clear vision of her goals.

“I want to sharpen the school by improving the academic standards. We have a very good school,” Wrigley said.

She added that the school has hard-working and committed staff members whom she could rely on.

Born and raised in Hertfordshire, England, her family emigrated to South Africa in her grade 9 year and she matriculated at Boksburg High School. She went on to complete her BA Honours and teaching diploma at Wits University.

Wrigley took up her first teaching post at Germiston High School as a teacher of history and Latin.

In 1992, she joined the Sir Pierre family as HOD of the Humanities department. She has inspired many learners with her passion for history.

She became deputy principal in January 2011 and was acting principal for almost a year while the former principal Ernst van Biljon, who is now retired, was away.

“Her enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to the school are evident. We are confident that under her serene and capable guidance, Sir Pierre will continue to flourish and to live up to the school motto, ‘ACHIEVE’,” the school’s deputy principal, Brian Naidoo, said.

Wrigley also acknowledged her predecessor Ernst van Biljon.

“Mr van Biljon was my mentor. His people skills, for example, were a highlight for me,” Wrigley concluded.
