A dog was thankfully returned to its owner after it was stolen by a group of teen boys on Friday, November 25 at around 10.30am.
CCTV footage shows the boys walking out of a yard with the dog.
Police were driving along the street in an unmarked vehicle and caught the boys by surprise when they stopped right next to them, said Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme.
The boys were chased along Bafadi Street in Norkem Park but managed to escape, leaving the dog behind, covered in a jacket.
The stolen dog was taken back to its owner by the police officers.
Molokomme urged residents not to underestimate young boys and to be alert at all times to avoid such incidents.
“We urge the community to be alert, especially when schools close, because this is when we experience a lot of robberies of bicycles by youngsters,” he warned.
The community is advised to call Norkem Park SAPS to report any suspicious persons or vehicles on 011-391-1814/5 or sector numbers 071-675-680/3 to 6.
