Man nabbed for unlicensed firearm

Twelve rounds of ammunition were also found in his possession

A 36-year-old man appeared in court on Friday morning for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Kempton Police’s spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, crime prevention unit officers Sgt Themba Nkuna and Const Vonani Maluleleke were patrolling along Kempton Road on Wednesday when the arrest was made.

Nkuna and Maluleleke pulled over a gold coloured Mercedes Benz with four occupants inside.

“The officers approached the car and searched the occupants,” Mtshali said.

“Upon searching them they found one of the occupants with a firearm, allegedly with its number tampered with. Twelve rounds of ammunition were also found in his possession.”

When requested by the police, the suspect, who is a Zimbabwean national, could not produce a licence for the firearm.
