Drug trial participants thanked

The research programme started with 76 women

CLINRESCO Centres, a clinical research company, hosted a lunch for 19 ladies at Shades of Sweet and Savoury in Glen Marais on Friday last week (December 2).

The lunch was to thank them for their participation in a clinical trial for a new drug to prevent fractures in women over the age of 65 who have osteoporosis.

“The trial took place over seven years, during which the women visited Clinresco every 6 months for clinic visits with a doctor trained to do clinical trials. They had bone scans and x-rays done and they received study medication and calcium supplements,” said Mandy Cilliers, site manager for Clinresco Centres.

The research programme started with 76 women, but only 19 ended the programme.

The women who participated in the trial are from Kempton, Boksburg, Benoni and Springs.
