Four arrested on murder charge

"The suspects were seen allegedly assaulting the deceased, who is in his 20s."

Four men residing in Ivory Park have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of another man over the weekend.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the four suspects whose ages range from 29 to 36, were arrested not long after the incident took place after eyewitnesses came forward with information that led the police the suspects’ whereabouts.

“The suspects were seen allegedly assaulting the deceased, who is in his 20s, on the street next to a tavern on Saturday. Unconfirmed reports say the suspects are alleged to have accused the deceased of being responsible for the murder of one of their friends. It is not clear as to what murder is being referred to. The suspects were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on December 6 to face a charge of murder,” said Capt Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, was particularly grateful to the members of the community who came forward with information that led to the speedy arrest of the suspects.

“Providing the police with any piece of information that may lead to the detection of any criminal activity will go a long way in creating safer communities and, by extension, a safer Ivory Park. We therefore appeal to this community to heed the call of being the eyes and ears of the police to enable us as the SAPS to create a safer festive season,” said Brigr Ngcobo.
