Community tip-off leads metro police to unlicensed firearm
He was caught in Extension 9 Ivory Park.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, members of the Ivory Park SAPS crime prevention and sector policing unit received a tip off from the community about a burglary that was taking place. The police responded to the incident.”Upon their arrival, the officers found a man loading bags into a Toyota Venture. When asked what was going on, the man claimed to have been hired to transport the bags to Tembisa by two other men. As the police were busy questioning him, two men came out of the shop and fled the scene. The police became concerned that there was more to what the man was saying,” said Capt Matimulane.
He said the value of the hair pieces, according to the owner of the shop who later came to identify his goods, was found to be about R30 000.
“The suspect, who is 33 years old, has been detained at the Ivory Park SAPS pending his appearance in court.
The search for the other suspects is underway,” said Capt. Matimulane.
“We have said time and again that we will be out in full force this festive season to ensure that the people of Ivory Park and their property is safe. This arrest bears testimony to this commitment and, with the community playing their part, I don’t see why this cannot be achieved,” said the station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo.
