Department hosts child safety campaign

"A play performed by the Stacey Fru Foundation was well-received by the learners."

P.S Tsosane Primary School in Ivory Park hosted a children’s safety campaign on November 23.

Department of Community Safety spokesperson Mr Thapelo Moiloa said the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, in partnership with the Stacey Fru Foundation and the SAPS, embarked on the campaign to ensure children are safe at all times, in schools and at their respective homes.

“A play performed by the Stacey Fru Foundation was well-received by the learners. The play depicted a story of a child who went missing due to the parents’ negligence and disregard for a child’s basic safety,” said Mr Moiloa.

Stacey Fru, the 9-year-old author, said children’s rights are for children to use.

“If you feel unsafe or are subjected to any form of abuse do not hesitate to call 10111, we all deserve to live in safe and comfortable communities,” said Stacey.

Ivory Park’s ward 78 councillor, Clr Stephen Makamo, said the only way to ensure children’s safety is to keep them in schools.

“I hope learners learnt a lot about their safety both at school and in their respective communities.”

“Stacey is a good inspiration to all children. This means children can reach for their dreams through education and hopefully, going forward, we can maintain and consistently engage children in school safety initiatives such as this one,” he said.
