VIDEO: One dead after shootout between armed robbers, police

Motorists can expect heavy delays in the Longmeadow/Modderfontein area

ONE person has died following a shootout between a group of armed robbers and police in Longmeadow this afternoon.

Motorists can expect heavy traffic delays in the Longmeadow/Modderfontein area due to on-going crime scene investigations and resultant road closures.

According to EMER-G-MED’s Max Cohen, it is believed the suspects were being chased by police from the West Rand after an armed robbery.

A dramatic video posted on Twitter by ‏@crimeairnetwork shows a helicopter landing while members of the police run towards the scene to join their fellow officers and some suspects who were already under arrest.

EMER-G-MED paramedics arrived at the scene on Parkway Road to find a large police presence.

“A police helicopter had landed on the roadway to offload special task force members,” Cohen explained.

“One suspect, the driver of the getaway vehicle, was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. He was declared dead on the scene.”

A second suspect sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised before being transported to a nearby hospital under police guard.

“Two uninjured suspects are believed to have been arrested on the scene.”
