Ivory Park SAPS detectives are on the hunt for four men, one of whom fired indiscriminately at tavern patrons in Ivory Park, Extension 2 on Saturday night, killing two men and injuring five others.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, two cases of murder and five counts of attempted murder have been opened after one of the four occupants of a grey Toyota Corolla opened fire at the patrons, sending others running helter-skelter in different directions.

“Eyewitnesses say the three other occupants were in the car as the fourth one was busy firing. After firing several shots the shooter jumped into the car, which fled the scene as quickly as it had arrived. No one had the opportunity to even record the registration number of the vehicle. The first person to have been shot died at the scene after being hit multiple times. He has been identified but for now we can only say the victim is 32 years old,” said Captain Matimulane.

Captain Matimulane added the second person, whose details are not available as yet, died in hospital.

“Five other victims are currently in hospital. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage but investigations in this regards are ongoing. Ivory Park police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at 011 990-9600,” added Capt. Matimulane.
