Business robber arrested

Warrant officer arrests a business robber.

A 28-year-old suspect was arrested for business robbery by an off-duty police officer on December 29.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said it was alleged by a 24-year-old tuck shop attendant that he was in the shop serving customers at Illiliba section when five unknown men arrived to buy cigarettes.

“Suddenly two of the suspects pointed their firearms. They ordered the tuck shop attendant to unlock a burglar door. All suspects entered the tuck shop. They robbed the tuck shop attendant of cash and also took cigarettes and airtime,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.

Captain Ralidzhivha said one of the suspects stabbed the victim three times in his right thigh. The tuck shop attendant screamed for help and many members of the community came out and gave chase. He was later transported and admitted to hospital.

“An off-duty police officer took his vehicle and gave chase. The warrant officer managed to arrest one suspect. He locked him in his car as the community wanted to lay their hands on him.”

Captain Ralidzhivha said the suspect resides at Emmangweni section.

“Police were summoned to the scene and the suspect’s accomplice managed to escape arrest. On arrival police found the suspect locked inside the off-duty warrant officer’s car. There were many people around the car.”

Captain Ralidzhivha said the suspect was taken by police to the police station.

He was detained at the Tembisa police cells .

He was charged with business robbery and assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm.
