40-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder

A 40-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder, following an incident on December 5 at Winnie Mandela Zone 3.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said a 26-year-old man was fetching water when he was stabbed by a man with a screwdriver.

The victim claimed to be fetching water when the incident occurred.

“He said there were people holding a meeting in the hall and a man came out fuming. He was breathing heavily. Without a word he produced a screwdriver and stabbed the victim in the chest,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.

Capt Ralidzhivha said the suspect did not say anything to the victim.

“An ambulance was called and the injured man was transported to hospital, where was admitted.”

When the victim was discharged from hospital, he went to the Tembisa Police Station and opened a case.

Capt Ralidzhivha said while the victim was still opening the case, information was received by police that the suspect had packed his bags and was preparing to runaway.

“Police went to the Margaret Zuma Clinic where they found the suspect waiting for someone to pick him up. He was then taken to the Tembisa Police Station,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.

Capt Ralidzhivha said the suspect appeared before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder.

It was further established that the suspect was angry because he was chased away from the meeting he was attending in the hall.
