
Police in Ivory Park are investigating a case of murder. This comes after a man belonging to the Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) was gunned down on Sunday evening.
It is alleged that the 34-year-old victim was shot several times by three unknown men who had swarmed out of a red Volkswagen Polo. He was with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting
The incident happened at Ivory Park, Extension 2.
“At the time, the victim was reportedly speaking to the owner of another car,” explained Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane. “It is said that as the two men were talking, the owner of the other car was busy chatting on the phone, and that was when the vehicle with three armed occupants arrived hurriedly. The victim died at the scene but the girlfriend was not shot. A total of 12 cartridges were found at the scene.”
Captain Matimulane said it is suspected that the murder may be related to violence within the taxi industry.
