Ebony Park woman appears in court for perjury

"After the argument the woman (32) opened a case of common assault and pointing of a firearm."

An Ebony Park woman appeared in the Tembisa Court Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of perjury after she allegedly opened a false case against her policeman fiancé, who she accused of pointing a firearm at her.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the couple had an argument that began with a WhatsApp message which apparently was received from the woman’s phone.

“After the argument the woman (32) opened a case of common assault and pointing of a firearm. After the case was opened the police went to arrest the man and to confiscate the firearm. When interviewed further, the woman told the police that even though she and her fiance had had an argument, he had not at any stage pointed or threatened her with a firearm. She was arrested for opening a false charge and was brought to the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer for this charge,” said Capt Matimulane.
