Schools select best Tembisa athletes team
Athletes from the local primary and secondary schools took part in the race in Mehlareng Stadium, where the Tembisa Schools Athletic Committee (TSAC), was formulating best athlete groups who will represent Tembisa area in Greater Town competitions.
Learners from several primary and secondary schools in and around Tembisa participated in 1.5km race on Thursday and Friday last week.
The initiative was led by the founder of Tembisa Athletic Club, Mr Elvis Khoza.
The race took place at Mehlareng Stadium, where the Tembisa Schools Athletic Committee (TSAC) was putting together teams of the best athletes.
These athletes will represent the Tembisa area in the Greater Town competitions.
Other learners attended to support the athletes from the various schools.
According to the chairperson of TSAC, Mr Vincent Molokomme, they wanted to ensure that they develop the best learners who have potential to represent the country.
“All the participating schools took the race very seriously because they know competitions are just around the corner, and as Tembisa teams we want to do well this year,” said Mr Molokomme.
The boys’ and girls’ primary teams that were selected will be racing at Jeugland in Kempton Park on February 13, while the secondary team will be racing at HoĆ«rskool Kempton Park on February 14.
Secondary schools taking part are Tembisa High, Tswelopele, Winnie Mandela, Bokamoso, Boitumelong, Tembisa West, Masiqhakaze, Masisebenze, Ingqayisivele, Phomolong, Rhodesfield, Sunrise, Thutu-Ke-Matla, and Charlote Maxeke.
