NORKEM Park Primary School will host its first ever “Floreamus” Music Eisteddfod from May 1 to 30.
The school has identified a huge gap in opportunities to perform and compete in the first half of the year and trusts that the critiques obtained at this eisteddfod can be used to improve and better the learners’ performances for exams and eisteddfods that follow later in the year.
This eisteddfod will be hosted at the school, making it accessible to learners from all over Kempton Park and the greater East Rand.
Learners from Grades 4 to 12 can compete in three main categories, namely choirs, instrumental and vocal. Each of these categories have many sub-categories, ranging from renaissance to post-modern pieces/items.
The aim is to ensure that each child is adjudicated based on their musical capability and not necessarily their age, as some younger learners are more advanced in their musical grading than learners who are older and vice versa.
“It is of utmost importance to us that we host an eisteddfod that is not only affiliated with the National Eisteddfod Academy but that will be adjudicated by qualified, experienced and unbiased adjudicators, in order to make this a fair and meaningful experience for all who enter it,” the school said.
