Mom makes top 100 in Mrs South Africa

The 100 semi-finalists will go on to compete at the semi-final weekend at Emperors Palace from April 26 to 28

JANINDA Willcock from Kempton Park has been announced as a Top 100 semi-finalist in the Mrs South Africa 2017 Pageant.

Janinda is a wife and mother to three girls aged four to eight, who works as a legal secretary in Kempton Park.

“Like every mom, I am sure, mornings are chaotic and it is always a race against the clock to get everyone where they need to be on time. A mom always draws the short end of the stick and I often have very little time for makeup and bouncing curls, you know, that she’s-got-it-all-this-morning look,” says Janinda.

Janinda explains that it is for this reason that she started following the Mrs South Africa Pageant over the past three years. Mrs South Africa has a reputation for being a women-empowerment programme that prides itself on promoting real, bona fide women.

It doesn’t matter what your story is or where you come from. It offers married South African women who have real-life careers, families and hobbies the chance to compete for the prestigious title of Mrs South Africa.

“Being a wife, a mother and an employee is not always glamorous and sophisticated but makes a woman who she is and that is something beautiful. But one must never lose oneself and always make time to dress up and own it,” says Janinda.

The 100 semi-finalists will go on to compete at the semi-final weekend at Emperors Palace from April 26 to 28 and will be subjected to intensive judging by an esteemed panel of judges, comprising Vusi Zwane (Emperors Palace Peermount Hotel corporate affairs and corporate social investment executive), Candice Abrahams (Mrs World 2016) and Unaiza Moideen (business woman in the beauty industry) and principal judge Cindy Nell Roberts (business woman and former Miss South Africa).

Only 25 women will be selected to continue the journey as finalists for Mrs South Africa, who will be announced at the Annual CANSA gala dinner on April 28 at Emperors Palace Centre Court. All proceeds of this event will go to the pageant’s official charity, the Cancer Association of South Africa.

Mrs South Africa contestants are between the ages of 24 and 49; they are mature, driven, ambitious and – most of all – real women who strive to be the best versions of themselves. They are wives and often mothers too; some are entrepreneurs but most are change-makers.

“And now I, Janinda Willcock, am one of them. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a voice among women. This is not a journey I can embark on without the help of my community. It is great to see the business community come together and aid me in this journey.

“A big thank you to Victor & Partners Attorneys, who is my official silver sponsor. Personal sponsors are Bianto Hair & Beauty, RezCo Beauté and Blue Dragonfly Events.”
