Child welfare offers parenting skills workshops

Place of safety parents, foster parents and anyone else wishing to equip themselves with these skills are welcome to attend the training.

CHILD Welfare Kempton Park has a new parenting skills programme they offer for free to the community.

The programme is aimed at educating, empowering and equipping parents and caregivers with coping mechanisms which will enable them to be more positive and responsible towards children’s needs, care and support.

“Child neglect, abandonment and abuse has been on the increase because parents are not equipped with knowledge and support in child rearing, discipline, children’s rights, as well as their responsibilities and rights to cope with the daily challenges of child upbringing, while not being capacitated,” the welfare organisation wrote in a statement.

All parents whose children are removed from their care due to neglect, abuse and abandonment, and those identified as in need of the programme, are encouraged to attend the workshop. Place of safety parents, foster parents and anyone else wishing to equip themselves with the requisite skills, are welcome to attend the training.

This is a two-day session that takes place on alternate Saturdays from 9am to noon.

Registration can be done telephonically or people can go to the welfare offices at 19 Maxwell Street, Kempton Park.
