SASSA pay points in Tembisa cause a nightmare

'It is shocking that SASSA treat people as mere chattels'

The payout of SASSA grants in Tembisa started at a low on Monday morning.

According to ward councillor Simon Lapping, who was one of several DA members who visited the various pay points in the township this morning, a notice was put up at Rabasotho Hall indicating payouts would only start on Tuesday.

“Tembisa Plaza also had no money. Many people are standing in queues waiting to get money. This is a shocking failure for SASSA,” he told Kempton Express.

Lapping came across an 85-year-old man who went to Tembisa Plaza to collect his grant.

“There he was told they were off-line and should go to Rabasotho Hall, 3km away. He is now here and there is no money for him,” Lapping said earlier.

“He has no money to get a taxi to go home. I will now take him home. It is shocking that SASSA treat people as mere chattels.”
