SASSA refutes claims of failure to pay

"According to our official payment schedule, we are doing payments from April 4 to 13 at Rabastho Hall. "

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) refuted claims of failure in paying out grants.

This follows the arrival of grant receivers at Rabasotho Hall on Monday.

SASSA local manager Mr Thabo Saul said SASSA was not aware that people went to Rabasotho Hall for payment on Monday, April 3.

“According to our official payment schedule, we are doing payments from April 4 to 13 at Rabastho Hall. That is excluding weekends.

“At Lethabong Community Hall we will do pay-outs on April 14 and 17,” said Mr Saul.

“The incident that took place on Monday was unfortunate because as SASSA local manager of Tembisa, I did not give instructions to my officials to go and put up a notice at Rabasotho Hall.”

He said this after people responded by going to Rabasotho Hall on Monday in response to incorrect information regarding pay-outs being circulated in Tembisa. He said on behalf of SASSA, he apologises to community members – especially to the elders, for the incident.

“On the payment slips there’s a date for the next payment for each and every person.”

Mr Saul said the payment process went well on Tuesday, despite the fact that the number of beneficiaries had doubled because of people who are receiving payment from other areas.

“We cannot turn them back. Even people from Ivory Park whose dates are not today are here but we will serve everyone,” he said on Tuesday.

He said SASSA distances itself from the notification put up on Monday at Rabasotho Hall’s gate.

Mr Saul said SASSA posters have SASSA logos and government logos.
