Society presents talk on gerbils
This is the first in what is planned to be a series of talks centred around cute creatures who come out at night

MODDERFONTEIN Conservation Society brings something completely different to its April evening talk with an illustrated presentation by society member Peter Grube entitled AHA Moments with Gerbils.
The meeting will take place at Modderfontein Town Hall, 1 Casino Road, at 7.30pm on April 20.
This is the first in what is planned to be a series of talks centred around cute creatures who come out at night; the AHA moments being a shortening of After Hours Animals.
While gerbils are seldom seen and are pretty small, Grube’s research has turned up some interesting facts about them. Gerbils, for instance, excavate burrows in sandy soil during the night. The fresh ramp of newly turned soil around the base of small bushes and grass clumps tells one that there’s a gerbil around.
One can often see some rubbish at the burrow entrance which shows that gerbils keep a clean house and put the rubbish out nightly.
Grube is an entertaining speaker and anyone who heard his coin conservation talk last year will not want to miss this one.
Visitors are welcome to attend this talk. An entrance fee of R30 is charged to help cover expenses. For more information, call Peter Olive on 011 608 2799 or 083 461 6221.
