Swop your clothes for only R20 at Pitt Boxes’ new exchange wardrobe
One of their goals is to assist families in dire strait situations

AFTER only five months, a new charity organisation in Norkem Park, called Pitt Boxes (People in Trouble Time), has already done a lot for the community.
Norma-jean (Shore) Veldsman, director and founder of Pitt Boxes, thanked the community for their generous response. “Without your assistance we would not have been able to achieve such success thus far.”

Since Kempton Express published an article about them in February, they have clothed families, people living in squatter camps and given out food parcels. They are awaiting sponsorship towards training in the security sector.
They have also assisted an organisation with baby clothing and products.
Says Veldsman, “We are in the start-up phase of a women empowerment initiative which will hopefully be a resource for future income for disadvantaged or unemployed women. There will be a minimum cost involved to cover the training materials required.”
They recently opened a shop, Boutique Exchange Wardrobe, at 105 Soutpansberg Drive in Van Riebeeck Park. It is based on an exchange system where one pays R20 when you bring in an item of clothing to exchange for another.
There are also priced items. All clothing must be in good condition with no buttons missing, no stains and no tears.
The shop is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm Saturday and 9am to 1pm Sunday.
The goal is to assist the less fortunate with food parcels and clothing through the shop’s resources.
“Through this exchange system the community as a whole will benefit from the wardrobe. At this store there is also a ‘blessing box’ for people wanting to donate directly to the less fortunate. This box is mainly for non-perishable food items but also for other items such as clothing and books,” Veldsman added.
Pitt Boxes’ main goals are to assist families in dire straits, single parent families, sourcing internships for youngsters struggling to find work and
sourcing work for adults to alleviate poverty in the community.
They are in need of pre-loved clothing, linen, blankets, baby clothing and any other necessity that may make life easier. And most importantly, they need companies to help with their employment placement programme to break the cycle of poverty in the community.
Financial contributions of any amount can be made into the foundation account.
