Is there enough awareness about human trafficking in the community?

Matthew Serope said: “I don’t think there is enough awareness about this type of issue because people still fall under traps of these perpetrators. It is hugely important to both identify and expand ways of increasing awareness directly within vulnerable communities. Outreach programs should be organised to schools, day care centres and many other public organisations.”
Katlego Nkosi said: “Lots of people are still ignorant about this issue. The only thing they ever talk about is nyaope. As much as nyaope was campaigned against, the same campaigns should pass through to other issues impacting our community. Police as well should raise more public awareness about it and organise constant campaigns to reach to the community on how to look for signs of human trafficking.”
Mercy Kanjita said: “There is enough awareness about human trafficking but people do not take it seriously. Some community members are still interested to be offered lifts from people that they do not know, especially women. That’s the reason why many women go missing. Some parents let their children play at far places from home. Members of SAPS and other stakeholders reach to the community about these issues but our people are still in a comfort zone.”
Lehlogonolo Tutje said: “On social media, there is enough awareness about human trafficking compared to our community. In actual fact, there is not enough awareness – only few organisations talk about it during their private campaigns. There should be huge public awareness consistently to get a clear picture or message to vulnerable people. Children still get abducted and found killed.”
Abel Tlhako said: “Currently, I don’t see much effort from our people campaigning about human trafficking. If the issue gets to many people and various organisations, they will be marching to raise more public awareness about it. And this is not good to our vulnerable community because by the time residents start to raise awareness about it, it would be because so many families have lost their beloved.”
