A group of armed youths robbed customers at Harvesters Pub and Grill on July 4 just after 6pm.
According to the owner of the pub, which is situated at the corner of Koedoe Avenue and the P91 in Birchleigh, Tuesday is usually bingo night but because of the cold no bingo was played that night and fewer customers than usual visited.

The owner praised his staff for remaining calm and doing as they were told to ensure there was no need for violence.
“I always told my stuff that if something like this should ever happen, they must relax and do as they are told, and for that reason I think they were brilliant. The customers were also great in that they also did not panic and within six minutes the suspects were out of that place,” said the owner, who asked not to be named.
The suspects told everyone to lie on the floor and then robbed them of their wallets, purses, jewellery, keys and cellphones before fleeing.
“I also want to thank armed response and Birchleigh Neighbourhood Watch for coming to help. The police also came and took statements,” the owner said.
