Staff locked in container as suspects bomb drop-safe

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken by the suspects who also fired a warning shot

AN unknown number of suspects bombed an Engen petrol garage drop-safe on Zuurfontein Road after midnight on Monday.

Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, said the suspects held staff at gunpoint and locked them in a container that is being used as a kiosk as the garage is being renovating.

Tsotsotso said: “At the moment we can confirm that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken by the suspects who also fired a warning shot before locking the staff in the mobile container. Investigations are underway and more details about this crime will be communicated.”

The staff were found locked in the container by police officers who were patrolling the area.

No injuries were reported.
