Poorly barricaded hole damages vehicle

A disappointed Alex Andjelkovic said there were no warning signs

GLEN Marais resident Alex Andjelkovic (29) is disappointed after crashing into a pile of dirt that damaged his vehicle on Commissioner Road on the night of July 17.

Andjelkovic said all this would not have happened if the workers who dug a hole had barricaded the road properly.

“The road was only barricaded on one side. To make matters worse, the street light was not working. There were no traffic warning signs on the side that was not barricaded. I took it upon myself to warn other motorists after crashing,” he said.

Andjelkovic described what happened as “incompetent road work” that could cause serious injuries to motorists who drove on the road at night.

A disappointed Alex Andjelkovic said the hole was only barricaded on one side.

“The next morning I went to the area and spoke to a worker. They have since barricaded the hole properly. When I spoke to them I learned that the workers were working on a sewer line,” Andjelkovic explained.

He said he had only had his Hyundai Tucson for a month when this happened. It had done only 25 000km.

“Fellow residents and motorists of Kempton Park, do not trust the municipality’s workers to do their job right. I am now going to be liable for my insurance excess and this will have a negative impact on my insurance history. I feel council should be the one liable for these costs,” said a disappointed Andjelkovic.

Comment from council has not been received at the time of going to print.
