Rotary ORT Kempton spends Mandela Day in Tembisa

On Tuesday 18 July, members from ORT Kempton (Bridgette Makutu, Thelma Sibonyani, Danae Van Zyl and Dumisani Modise), along with members from the sponsor club Benoni Aurora (John Bintcliffe and Grace Van Zyl) spent the afternoon in Tembisa visiting these projects.

Members of the soon to be chartered ORT Kempton Rotary obtained children’s educational books and linen from Rotary’s Humanitarian centre in Bedfordview.

Three projects in Tembisa were identified as worthy recipients.

On July 18, members from ORT Kempton (Bridgette Makutu, Thelma Sibonyani, Danae Van Zyl and Dumisani Modise), along with members of the sponsor club Benoni Aurora (John Bintcliffe and Grace Van Zyl) spent the afternoon in Tembisa visiting these projects.

Kempton Rotary also visited the Tshepang Care Cente situated at the Vusimuzi Informal area where educational books were handed out.

Ikhaya Lothando Community Centre -Home for orphaned boys.

Major donors have contributed to this centre being rebuilt after it was destroyed in a fire in 2012.

The centre is a home for orphaned boys aged 8 to 18.

The centre also runs a day care centre for children from disadvantaged homes.

The home is in need of more beds, bedding and books.

Tshimollo Care Centre for children with Cerebral Palsy was also visited.

Rotary presented the centre with educational books for the library they are in the process of starting.

Tshepang Care Centre – orphanage situated in Vusimuzi squatter camp which also provide food and afternoon studies to children from the community.

The centre is in need of food, clothes and toys for the children.

Rotary handed over educational books to help the children with their afternoon studies.

Tshimollo Care Centre – Home for children with cerebral palsy which is currently home for 30 children and 10 adults with varying degrees of cerebral palsy.

The needs range from medical supplies, pillow and mattress covers, linen, transport to name a few. Rotary handed over linen and children’s story books.
