According to Kempton SAPS visible policing head, Col Steven Moodley, the police received a complaint about the men stripping the car at about 3.15pm.

“Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, the suspects started shooting at the police, who retaliated. Two suspects jumped into the Toyota bakkie and one into a Toyota Verso,” Moodley explained.

The police managed to arrest the suspect who had attempted to get away in the Toyota Verso. His two accomplices in the double cab escaped. No one was injured.
