Delightful Angelz’s children throw pyjama party

Founder and director of Delightful Angelz, Nqobile Mbalathi, said the initiative was inspired by the need for more toys and educational materials

Delightful Angelz organised a pyjama party for the young ones on Friday.

The six month old day care centre caters for 12 children at the moment. Founder and director of Delightful Angelz, Nqobile Mbalathi, said the initiative was inspired by the need for more toys and educational materials.

“Parents were supportive because they were all willing to donate R20 per child. We appreciate their co-operation and their love for the day care centre,” said Nqobile.

The spirit of entrepreneurship in Nqobile led to the inception of centre. The retrenchment of Nqobile’s father in 2005 resulted in her venturing into the world of business when she began her first cake business at the age of 15.

“It wasn’t easy for my family then because my Dad was the only bread winner. We were four children and as the eldest I had to help out. This taught me not to depend on anyone but myself.”

Nqobile said she grew up at an early age and assumed a tough responsibility of thinking about her siblings. After matric the 27 years old entrepreneur couldn’t further her studies due financial constraints at home. As a result she had to quickly find employment and she became a cashier at a food store operating inside FNB stadium during the world cup.

She went on to become a supervisor at a filing company where she served for two years before the company closed down.

“I was unemployed and stranded for more than a year. I felt useless because my applications were turned down by companies. Thereafter I tried to get employment in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector and eventually one door opened and I was groomed at Heavenly Kidz Day Care Centre.

The principal there encouraged me to open my own day care centre because she realised I had a love for children,” Nqobile said.

Nqobile considered the advice and undertook ECD training while continuing to serve at Heavenly Kidz. After finishing her training she decided to pursue her newly found dream of looking after children.

“In March 2017 Delightful Angelz opened its doors to the community of Ivory Park. At the beginning I had challenges with competitors because I had a unique selling point for my services.

But the parents were very impressed with the services I was promising them. The business is now gradually growing and I am glad I didn’t give up on the dream.”

Delightful Angelz renders its services 24 hours and it uses English as medium of instruction.

“This is what sets my business apart from nearby businesses. I wanted to bridge the gab of communication between township children and children from the suburbs. Township children shouldn’t be looked down upon and they shouldn’t have a low self esteem because they struggle to communicate in English.

“I chose to open 24 hours because there are parents working night shift, leaving children with older siblings which exposes them to all sorts of dangers,” said Nqobile.

“It is the best decision for parents to choose Delightful Angelz because here we put the safety of the children first and their educational programmes are renewed every week.

To unemployed people I want to say let us not stop dreaming, this is a world for dreamers. What you dream today can come true tomorrow. They must push and not give, take it as it come.”
