Motorcyclist died in ‘comforting hands’ – condolences pour in

Residents are unhappy with the dangerous De Wiekus and Modderfontein intersection

Condolences poured in on social media over the weekend after the death of a motorcyclist at a Van Riebeeck Park intersection on Friday afternoon.

Phillip Wessels died in the comforting hands of a concerned resident and MML Security officials who were with him after the collision at the corner of De Wiekus and Modderfontein roads around 3.15pm.

People at the scene said the motorbike collided with a Silver Mahindra at the intersection and Phillip landed few metres from the collision point.

Concerned motorist George Holtzhausen was travelling from Chloorkop to Van Riebeeck Park when the accident happened. His wife Monique Carolus encouraged him to comfort Phillip as they waited for emergency services.

“My husband held his hand and talked to him. MML Security officials arrived and performed CPR to try and save his life but he unfortunately died while my husband was holding his hands.

“My husband went and found his backpack and handed it to MML Security officials. He has not taken the man’s death very well and we hope the family may know that their loved one was not alone when he died. We want to send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” said Carolus.

Residents expressed their condolences to Phillip’s family through EXPRESS’ Facebook page:

Anuska Engelbrecht-Bowen: Our sincere condolences to the family – from NP CPF Patrollers Sectors 1, 2 and 3.
