Young girls skilled in beauty therapy in Aston Manor
ICY works with different organisations and charity homes to help children gain skills that will empower them in the future
INFLUENCING Children and Youth (ICY) NPO orchestrated the training of two aspiring beauty therapists at Planet Nails on August 5.
The training sessions were a step in the right direction for two underprivileged teenage girls who expressed their passion and love for a career in the beauty industry to caring ears.
Social worker Vanessa Carelse heard of the girls’ desires about their future careers and asked if Marie-Louise Brand of Aston Manor Planet Nails could help skill the girls and take them a step closer to their dreams.
An excited Marie-Louise Brand welcomed the idea of training the two girls with pen arms, because she has been training people for a long time and has built a reputation not only as a beauty therapist but also an an educator and facilitator in the industry.
“When Vanessa came to me with the idea I was happy to help. I am teaching the girls the basics they need to know and I will also test them and then give them certificates for the skills they will gain. It makes me proud to be able to do something this meaningful for them and I hope to see them succeed and go on to become beauty therapists and hopefully start their own businesses in future,” said a proud Brand.
Carelse explained that ICY works with different organisations and charity homes to help children gain skills that will empower them in the future.
“These girls are 17 and 18 and both demonstrated a passion to work in this industry. We are very grateful to Planet Nails Aston Manor and Marie-Louise for making this training course possible,” she said.
ICY is a non-profit company that focuses predominantly on abused and neglected children from the ages of 9 to 17 years.
