AFRIFORUM Kempton Park successfully led a mass patrol around Kempton Park’s suburbs on Saturday night.
At least 200 members of policing structures from numerous cities in Gauteng convened at AfriForum’s Safety and Security offices on Ysterhout in Birchleigh for the fifth mass patrol since the beginning of the year.
A staggering 2 450km were travelled by combined efforts of 207 patrolling officials, which included both men and women.
Chairperson of AfriForum safety and security Jan Vermaak, who explained the code of conduct and shared safety tips to all patrollers prior to the patrols, said the joint effort accumulated an impressive 1 440 hours dedicated to eradicating crime in Kempton Park.
The patrol couldn’t have happened at a more appropriate night as there were numerous big events in Kempton Park, including the jam-packed Rock the Shades event at Dries Niemandt Park.
Vermaak said the visibility of united teams of patrollers definitely helped contain situations at the events while other teams confiscated drugs in Kempton Park CBD and arrested a driver under the influence of alcohol in Birchleigh.
Norkem Park SAPS station commander, Col Tobias Strauss, joined the teams and started the night by thanking all the members and private security companies who help fight crime in South Africa.
Strauss said Norkem Park SAPS policing area was one of the hardest hit policing precincts in Gauteng and the united efforts of policing structures such as CPFs, neighbourhood watch groups and private security companies helped fight crime in more ways than one.
